OLYMPICS : FIRE IN THE ATHLETES VILLAGE !
Plagued by woes in the lead up to the Opening Day, Rio Olympics just had another one: a fire in the Olympic Village! The fire broke out in the building housing the Australian contingent. The fire started in the underground car park, where a cigarette butt was probably disposed with the rubbish, reports say. However, there also had been published reports of deliberate sabotage in the Olympic Village allegedly by angry workers unhappy with their very poor working condition and unjustly low wages. All Australian athletes were evacuated, during the small fire, but were all safe. The Rio Olympics had been plagued by woes, from the Zika virus, to terror threats, polluted river waters, 'unlivable' athletes housing, not to mention the doping scandal involving Russia, and now the fire, among others. The Olympiad will open in 6 days' time.
Emergency Response Plan in #OlympicVillage tested successfully today. https://t.co/JzZc6ReiPg#OneTeam pic.twitter.com/dCIZ8t9KHu— AUS Olympic Team (@AUSOlympicTeam) July 29, 2016
