TENNIS : MARGARET COURT UNDER FIRE FOR "LESBIAN" COMMENTS !
Tennis Legend Margaret Court has come under heavy fire for her continued stand against same-sex marriage, and for saying that "tennis is full of lesbians" in a recent interview with a Christian radio.Tweet
Margaret Court, 74 years old, is now a Christian minister in her home town Perth, in Australia.
Margaret Court has won 24 Grand Slam Titles - - more than any human beings on Earth, to date. Though only 11 of those Titles were won in the Open Era.
Recently, Margaret Court has announced she was boycotting Australia's national flag carrier, Qantas, in response to the airlines' promotion of gay marriage.
"I have nothing against homosexual people, they can lead their life, but don't touch marriage", Margaret Court later explained in a TV interview.
She said, she supports marriage "the Bible way" - - which is conventionally between "a man and a woman".
In her Christian radio interview, Margaret Court continued to defend her stand.
Along the line, she said "tennis is full of lesbians", and they "are after our young ones".
Another Tennis Great, Martina Navratilova, savagely responded with sting.
Navratilova not only branded Margaret Court a "homophobe" but also called her a "racist" (sic).
Openly a lesbian, Martina Navratilova has won 18 Grand Slam Titles.
Navratilova and other lesbians in tennis had upped the ante in their attacks against Margaret Court.
They now had called to scrap Margaret Court Arena and to rename it into something else.
Margaret Court Arena is a historic and a major arena in the Australia Open -- named after Margaret Court, herself.
Whatever the people think about her views, Margaret Court is one of our greatest greats, and that Arena - - named after her - - celebrates that achievement, not her views, the Australian Prime Minister said, when asked about the brouhaha.
Mainly due to her religious faith, Margaret Court has been an outspoken critic of same-sex marriage for decades now.
