TENNIS : STAN WAWRINKA SURVIVES IN NARROW ESCAPE AT US OPEN !
World No.3 Stan Wawrinka narrowly escaped shock elimination from the 2016 US Open. The two-time Grand Slam Champion faced a nervy match point from a raging, relatively unknown Daniel Evans of Great Britain, in the 4th Set of their 3rd-Round duel. An intense, nail-biting, see-saw battle, the 4th Set ended in a close tie-break - the second in the match - with Wawrinka barely surviving, 10-8. The 5th and Final Set proved to be more decisive, as Wawrinka clinched his hard-fought victory, 6-2. The 5-Set Match (4-6, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2), was a classic thriller. Daniel Evans, only ranked No. 64 in the world, punished Wawrinka with ferocious serve-and-volley, and attacks to the net, early in the first 4 Sets. Wawrinka struggled to fight back, and seemingly found his mojo only in the 5th Set, after his razor-edge escape in the 4th. Well, that's what Grand Slam Champions do. Turn things around, even in seemingly impossible, do-or-die situation. Wawrinka, now through to the 4th Round.Tweet
