TENNIS : MARIA SHARAPOVA WINS DOPING BAN APPEAL !

TENNIS : MARIA SHARAPOVA WINS DOPING BAN APPEAL !
Tennis star Maria Sharapova has won her doping ban appeal - reducing her suspension from 2 years to 15 months!

In a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), Sharapova's drug ban was cut by 9 months, allowing her to compete back in action as early as end of April 2017 - perfectly in time for the French Open!

Sharapova tested positive with an illegal substance at the Australian Open in January 2016. She broke the news herself about her failed drug test in March. She was subsequently suspended for two years by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), for which she filed an appeal.

Sharapova, one of the biggest names in sports, and the long-time richest female athlete in the world, has also missed the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, as a result of her drug imbroglio.

Sharapova's failed drug test has sent shock waves not only in tennis but in the world of sports, in a time where it is plagued by ugly drug scandals - left and right.

Coincidentally or otherwise, probably the ugliest of them all, was the whole of Russia entangled in the drug cheat scandal. Almost it's entire Olympic Team, banned from the Rio Olympics. Unprecedented in history.

Authorities had confirmed, widespread doping in Russia is being done in cahoots with the Russian government, itself! So there grows the doping culture, they say.

Sharapova is from Russia, of course.

Not sure, if that has any relevance, at all?

The tennis world is not sympathetic to Sharapova. Many did not believe her excuse. Still don't.

One is actually far more brutal - she wants Sharapova stripped of all her professional titles!

Sharapova admitted to taking this drug, called Meldonium, for at least ten years. Probably longer.

For her diabetes, she said. Or health reasons, whatchamacallit.

But you don't take a drug for health purposes, if that drug is relatively unknown to the rest of the world, do you?

Especially when that drug, invented in a place called Latvia, is not allowed in the country where you now live.

Sharapova now lives in the USA, doesn't she?

It doesn't matter if it is prescribed by your so-called old 'family doctor' back from your native country.

This is 21st century science. Not medieval medicine where a wonder drug is known only to one doctor. Or two.

Thing is, how many modern-day doctors would prescribe that to their patients, these days?

What we know is that, this drug can enhance performance. It has the ability to increase oxygen movement to muscles, and therefore could have a positive effect on stamina and endurance, especially for athletes.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of athletes had been using this drug to enhance performance, it was revealed recently.

In fact, initially, there already 124 cases of positive drug test results on the WADA list (World Anti-Doping Agency), for this banned substance. The list is expected to grow.

By the way, most on the list are from Russia! And its neighbor countries, no surprise.

Back to the Sharapova suspension, tennis players also criticized why she was given the 'privilege' to break the news about her own failed drug test herself, and not the anti-doping authorities, themselves?

That would never happen to any other tennis players, they say. Or to any other athletes, I say?

Unless, you are the richest athlete in this world, eh?
