A country still reeling from the tragic loss of 14 young hockey players just over a fortnight ago, when their bus en route to a play-off was T-boned by a truck, comes another horrific tragedy that besets Canada when a van plowed into unsuspecting pedestrians walking in downtown Toronto - - killing at laest 10, injuring many others.Tweet
A lone Canadian police officer confronted the suspect at gunpoint and arrested him, without firing a single shot shortly after the harrowing carnage - - video of the dramatic scene going viral on social media.
The police officer was hailed as a hero.
The suspect, later identified by police as 25-year old Alek Minassian - - who yelled at the arresting officer to shoot him in the head and kill him during their brief stand-off - - is now in police custody, alive and unharmed.
The sporting world joins the Canadian people in paying tribute to the fallen victims.
