US OPEN : ALIZE CORNET CONTROVERSY - - IF MEN CAN TAKE SHIRTS OFF WHILE ON COURT, SO CAN WOMEN ?!
The US Open has hit headlines early, on its opening week - - all for the very wrong reason.
A female player, World No. 31 Alize Cornet of France, has triggered a sticky "sexism"controversy when she took her shirt off while on court, prompting the chair umpire to issue her a warning for 'code violation'.
Cornet apparently had earlier put her shirt on, the wrong way - - coming back from a short heat break- - had to take it off while on court to fix - - briefly exposing her body, her sports bra on.
Critics cry "sexism" over the bizarre call as men obviously can take their shirts off (to change) and expose their body on court during a tennis match with no ballyhoo, at all.
In a statement, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) has said: "All tennis players can change their shirts when sitting in the player chair. This is not a code violation".
"Female players, if they choose, may also change their shirts in a more private location close to the court, when available", USTA has said.
In this day and age of mortal equality, if men can walk down the street shirtless, certainly so could women.
Right?
