TENNIS : ANDY MURRAY DROPS BOMBSHELL AHEAD OF AUSTRALIAN OPEN; ANNOUNCES SHOCK RETIREMENT FROM TENNIS !
The 'Big Four' in world tennis will soon be no more.
Andy Murray - - the greatest tennis player in British history - - has announced his retirement from tennis.
Murray's announcement came as a devastating bombshell to the sport, only a couple of days ahead of the Australian Open - - the first major tennis event of the year.
In a Press Conference down under Friday - - evidently was emotionally too hard for the Brit to start, he had to leave the room in his first attempt - - Andy Murray, breaking down in tears, announced he is retiring from the sport after a long and agonising battle with a recurring hip injury, the pain has become a little bit too much, he is now forced to call it quits.
Murray revealed, he wants to retire at Wimbledon in his homeland Britain, but is unsure if he can physically last until then, the Australian Open could now be his last.
BRITISH ICON ANDY MURRAY ANNOUNCES SHOCK RETIREMENT
FROM TENNIS AHEAD OF THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN.
Barely 24 hours earlier, Andy Murray was having a much-publicised 'warm-up' match against Top Seed and World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, kick-starting the action for Australian Open 2019, signalling his supposed return to big-stage tennis.
Then, his surprise announcement came as a complete reverse.
Andy Murray - - just 31, in a sport where 31 now seems to be the new 21 - - is a 3-Time Grand Slam Champion and a back-to-back Olympic Champion - - the only man in history to win the Olympics Tennis Men's Singles, two times.
He was Knighted by Prince William in 2016.
Unlucky, or otherwise, Andy Murray lived in a very rare era of giants where the sports' greatests of all time, seemed somewhat to come abound.
He is one of the "Big Four" - - alongside with the sports' greatests Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic - - forming a super elite quad in tennis who have dominated the sport for many years.
Brutally, Andy Murray lost the Australian Open Championship Finals, a record five times - - four times of which, to Novak Djokovic .
Regardless, surely to history they shall all belong.
In January 2018, Andy Murray posted a long, poignant and gloomy social media post before going under the knife for his stubborn hip injury which had tormented him on tour for many months, prior.
"Andy Murray faces biggest career threat as dreaded hip surgery looms!", then wrote Sports24.news.
"Hip surgeries, once done on tennis players in years past, they never became the same players, again", Sports24.news added.
Tributes pour as the news - - albeit was already somewhat previously ominous - - still came today to many in the sport, as a shock.
Salute, Andy.

Devastated by this news. @andy_murray is a true champion - honest, fair, determined. First major male tennis star to employ female coach, defender of equal pay for women etc etc. Sad day for tennis, and me.
