TENNIS : ANDY MURRAY SUCCUMBS TO KEI NISHIKORI ; CRASHES OUT OF US OPEN !
What supposed to be the icing on the cake for the year for Olympics Back-to-Back Champion and World No.2 Andy Murray has been spoiled unpretty by Kei Nishikori as he is crushed in the US Open's Quarter Finals by the Japanese sensation. Murray, winner of 2016 Wimbledon, Finalist both at 2016 Australian and French Open, and still very fresh from his historic win at the Rio Games - an unprecedented back-to-back having won Gold at the London Games - was looking to close out 2016 on a perfect note: recapture US Open trophy which he first held in 2012 - his very first Grand Slam win. But came Nishikori. Nishikori thwarts Murray in their Quarter Finals 5-Set thriller battle, 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. Murray, in winning form, was on the lead 2 Sets to 1 early, but later seemed to have lost his rhythm after rain closed the roof and a sound system 'malfunction' has gotten to his nerves. Furious, he argued with the umpire and referee. Nishikori took advantage and punished Murray with deadly drop shots. He held on to a crucial break in the 5th, and finished it out, 7-5. Nishikori, 2014 US Open Finalist, now enters the US Open Semi Finals for the second time - and the second Slam Semi, in fact, of his career. With this big, big win, Nishikori must be feeling like paradise. "Nishi" means paradise, eh?Tweet
