TENNIS : ANDY MURRAY REIGNS SUPREME; PREVAILS OVER NOVAK DJOKOVIC IN YEAR-END FINALE WORLD NO. 1 BATTLE !
Andy Murray has foiled a stubborn attempt by Novak Djokovic to wrestle back the World No.1 crown from him in a decisive battle at the ATP World Tour Finals in London, Sunday.Tweet
The Championship match was a thrilling year-end finale to decide who will be the World No. 1 at the end of the year.
Murray won in straight sets, 6-3, 64.
'Andy is definitely number 1 in the world,' proclaimed Novak Djokovic after the match, conceding the crown he once held for a long time.
Andy Murray dethroned Novak Djokovic as World No.1 only two weeks ago, ending the Djoker's long-running reign as King of Tennis.
Djokovic, 12-Time Grand Slam Champion, was World No. 1, uninterrupted, since July of 2014, and was intermittent World No. 1 for 221 Weeks, overall, since first becoming World No. 1 in 2011.
Right after Andy Murray's sudden snap of Djokovic's rule early this month, Djokovic quickly tried to reclaim his crown, but in vain.
Call it British Bulldog tenacity, but Andy Murray looks so determined he won't let go of his grip.
After years of defeat and agony at the hands of his nemesis in the Big Four, Andy Murray's time now seems to finally had come.
His long wait to get into the top, has taken him more than 7 long years hanging as World. No. 2 - a record in the sport - before finally making it to the top.
The painful beatings from Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and yes, Novak Djokovic himself, seemed endless.
And yeah, not to mention, his unimaginable 5 losses in five years - 4 of which to Djokovic - in the Australian Open Finals - adding insult to many injuries.
Now, Andy Murray reaps the rewards of sheer hard work and steel of determination.
For 2016, he had become the back-to-back Olympic Champion, the Wimbledon Champion, the ATP World Tour Finals Champion, and now, the Year-End World No. 1.
And, oh, brother Jamie Murray was Doubles World No. 1, too?
