TENNIS : VENUS WILLIAMS SUED OVER FATAL CAR CRASH !
Tennis Legend Venus Williams has been sued over a fatal car crash she had been involved in earlier this month in Florida, killing a 78-year-old man.Tweet
The fatality, Jerome Barson, was on the passenger seat of a Hyundai Accent car driven by his wife Linda Barson when it collided with Venus Williams' Toyota SUV on June 9, in Palm Beach Gardens, Police said.
Jerome Barson sustained injuries as a result of the collision, and died two weeks later.
The wife, Mrs. Linda Barson, 68, was admitted to a hospital but was believed to be out of danger.
Venus Williams, 37, was unhurt.
Venus Williams, who is set to play at Wimbledon for the 20th time in her career next week, issued a brief statement on Facebook, expressing her "heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Jerome Barson".
"I am devastated and heartbroken by this accident", said the 7-Time Grand Slam Champion.
Venus Williams' lawyer issued a statement to media saying at the time of the crash, "she entered the intersection on a green light".
"This is an unfortunate accident and Venus expresses her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one", the lawyer said.
Neither driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol or prohibited substance, at the time of the accident, Police said.
Venus Williams has not been criminally charged as of this time, and was not issued a Police citation after the accident.
Jerome Barson and Linda Barson had been married for 33 years.
I am devasted and heartbroken by this accident. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Jerome Barson and I continue to keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

The suit states that Jerome Barson, 78, died June 22 “as a result of the negligence of” Williams’ driving. They list her failure to yield to a right of way and to stop at a red-light as reasons for the crash.
