TENNIS : ROGER FEDERER - - 'THE FAIRY TALE CONTINUES' AS HISTORIC 20TH GRAND SLAM TITLE CLINCHED AT AUSTRALIAN OPEN !
"The Greatest Of All Time" is simply just that - - the greatest, of all time.Tweet
Undisputed.
Roger Federer @RogerFederer just proved to all and sundry that is he is not only ageless and timeless, he is also peerless.
Just a few years ago, no one would have ever imagined, Roger Federer - - was now beginning to age - - would still be winning Grand Slams, many already had written him off.
But, this Swiss Wizard, now 36, just keeps defying the undefiable.
He, again, broke his own world record and took an unprecedented 20th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open @AustralianOpen.
Roger Federer faced Croatia's Marin Cilic @Cilic_Marin in the Championship Finals, their battle stretched into a 5-Set epic thriller, the world glued to their TVs and mobile phones.
Federer drew the first blood quickly, winning the 1st Set with an early Double Break, 6-2, closing it out in a seemingly easy 24 minutes.
But, the battle has just begun, and in no means it's going to be easy.
Marin Cilic quickly responded, taking the 2nd Set to a Tie Break, in which he prevailed after an intense 60 minutes of toe-to-toe battle.
Federer fired back, taking the 3rd Set, but Cilic punished Federer with his venomous forehands snatching the 4th after overcoming a break down, forcing a decider.
In the 5th, Federer's class prevailed.
His incredible shot-making and placements simply showed his genius, like no other.
He closed out the Championship Match after 3 hours and 3 minutes of ferocious battle - - the deciding 5th Set with utter dominance, 6-2; 6-7; 6-3; 3-6; 6-1.
Roger Federer now becomes the only man in history to win 20 Grand Slam titles.
"The faily tale continues", says Federer in his victory speech, his voice cracking, his eyes teary.
Absolute privilege to witness you write history, Roger.
