TENNIS : RAFAEL NADAL BAGELED, BUT SURVIVES DOMINIC THIEM IN 5-SET QUARTER-FINALS 2 AM MARATHON EPIC AT US OPEN !
Rafael Nadal has survived a big scare at the US Open, digging deep to force a breathtaking 5-Set sudden-death Tie-Break, to snatch victory over Austria's Dominic Thiem in a a nearly 5-hour marathon epic that ended past 2:00 am in New York.
Thiem, ranked World No.9, handed Nadal a humbling "bagel" in the blazing opening Set, that seemed to have momentarily unsettled the "Raging Spanish Bull".
Rafael Nadal, 17-Time Grand Slam Champion, however quickly retaliated with his classic brutality and took the Second Set and Third Set, successively.
Thiem fired back, pushed the Fourth Set to a Tie-Break, and closed it, forcing a decider Fifth Set.

OPEN BARELY INCHING DOMINIC THIEM IN A 5TH-SET TIEBREAK
MARATHON EPIC THAT ENDED PAST 2:00 AM IN NEW YORK.
Fifth Set was take-no-prisoner.
US Open rules allow Tie-Break in the Fifth and Final Set, unlike all the other Grand Slams.
So came the Tie-Break, the ruthless, nail-biting gallows between the two.
Dominic Thiem blinked first under fire, and paid the high price.
Battle-scarred Rafael Nadal emerged victorious - - by the skin of his teeth - - after 4 hours and 49 minutes of ferocious battle on court, 0-6; 6-4; 7-5; 6-7; 7-6.
